Black Skin Care – How to Even Out Black Skin Tone

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 24.10.11

Lots of people with black skin suffer from the uneven tones which can differ on their face and their whole body. Several products have been created in order to help even out skin tone including foundation for black skin which helps to restore the balance and make the skin look completely consistent.

Reason For Uneven Skin Tones In Black People

One reason for uneven skin tones is due to acne scars. If you get acne and then pick at it the skin wants to repair itself so melanin, the name for the pigment that gives skin its color, rushes to the infected area and as it heals, the skin gets darker. Over time the tone may fade, but the scar usually remains darker than the rest of the skin and can sometimes look unsightly. Women are lucky that they are able to buy foundation and concealer to cover the scars and even out the skin tone on a temporary basis. Men are usually left to get used having these scars for the rest of their lives.

Products To Even Out Skin Tone

Many companies have invested a lot of money into creating black skin care products which aim to help reduce the look of the unsightly scars. However you have to really do your homework to ensure that the product you decide to buy doesn’t contain chemicals that could do permanent damage to your skin.

Many skin lightening products containing bleaching agents and steroids have been found to damage the skin permanently so always make sure you read the label of all products carefully.

So when choosing a skin care product to help even out your skin tone, it is always a good idea to buy small tester pots and try the creams on parts of the skin that are not always exposed. That way you can decide if that particular product is the right one for you.

Fractionated Coconut Oil – A Carrier Oil For Skin Care

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 23.10.11

Fractionated Coconut (Cocos nucifera) oil is a very popular oil suitable for massage therapist, aromatherapists, and manufacturers for skin care products. It is the preferred oil for high quality cold process soap making. Coconut oil is expressed under high pressure from the coconut kernel, and then filtered. It is actually solid at room temperature but melts easily at body temperature. It may cause skin sensitivity in people who have nut allergies. This article discusses its healing properties for skin care.

Coconut oil is an ingredient in many cosmetic products, especially suntan lotion, shaving creams, soaps, and some shampoos, because it lathers well and is a good conditioner for scalps.

Refined coconut oil is very close, in substance, to human subcutaneous tissue and is thus more compatible with skin than other vegetable oils. Massage therapists and aromatherapists note that it does not clog pores, making it an ideal carrier oil for troubled skin or oily skin.

What in the world does “fractionated” mean, anyway? This process removes some of the saturated fatty acids from the oil by heat, to make it softer and more liquid, while also taming it’s overwhelming natural odor. (This is not hydrogenation, which actually forces hydrogen into oils making them more solid). Some naturalists question if fractionated oils should be used since it is not a “whole product”. Most aromatherapist prefer natural oils. Certainly this is true for essential oils. However, many find that fractionated coconut oil has proved very satisfactory as a carrier, and prefer it to the unrefined oil, which tends to go rancid more quickly.

Coconut oil is an edible oil that has been consumed in tropical places for thousands of years and was prevalent in the United States as a favorite in the baking industry. However the campaign against saturated fats led to many manufacturers abandoning coconut oil.

Coconut oil is perfect for moisturizing both hands and body. It is light and easily absorbed into the skin, leaving it satin smooth. It can also be used as an intensive treatment to moisturize and condition brittle, dull or dry hair. It is great to use in or after a bath or shower for moisturizing the skin. It is a wonderful oil to use after sunning. It is excellent for scalp treatments. Massage it into the scalp and leave it on as long as possible. Some use it as a replacement for their conditioner. It can also be used for dryness, itching, and for sensitive skin.

If stored properly (cool environment out of direct light) its shelf life is very long. Its light texture makes it a good oil to use when heavier oils seem too sticky on the skin. It will also easily wash out of sheets and towels, making it a favorite of massage therapists. It may cause sensitivity in individuals who have nut allergies.

Organic Skin Care – The Best Anti Aging Skin Care?

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 21.10.11

If you have moved toward organic food, then taking the next step and looking into organic skin care makes sense.

Organic skin care means using products on your face that are produced organically, that is that are made of organic products only. These kinds of products are becoming more and more common and are getting easier to find. You might pay more, however, but if you are really committed to doing things the organic way, the cost is minimal compared to the benefits you get.

What are the benefits? Consider:

1. Your skin care regime can keep in line with your commitment to organic living, however you define it.

2. Most people who use organic skin care find that their skin is clearer and more vital looking than when they use more traditional skin care products, so is a good choice for anti aging.

3. You give your skin a better chance of aging well. Because organic products are loaded with natural antioxidants, you give your skin the nutrients it needs so you have fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

4. You can feel confident in knowing that your skin is being fed only natural ingredients. Because organic skin care products are made from only organic ingredients, there’s some security knowing that you are only putting all natural products on your face.

5. It’s a given that your organic skin care products won’t be tested on animals and will be vegetarian.

Just about any skin care product you can buy traditionally you can buy as an organic product. If you are partial to a good moisturizer, for example, you can find organic varieties for all kinds of skin, from oily to dry and combination.

Many shoppers will choose organic facial cleansers first, then move onto other products like moisturizers and toners, facial masks and eye creams. As with any switch, you might choose that gradual approach.

As with any new product as well, you should consider trying more than one brand. Although organic and natural products are formulated differently than conventional products, you might still run into the problem of one product not working for you. You might still have super dry skin or breakouts. Try a different brand, or a different product within the same brand. The result could be completely different.

If you are sensitive to scent, most organic products are lightly scented or sometimes unscented. This is ideal for those who don’t like a lot of scent in their products. When scented, many products are scented with lavender or aloe.

Although the whole list would be quite extensive, here are some skin care products you can purchase in organic form:

Eye gel

Eye cream

Moisturizer

Cleanser

Hand soap

Facial toner

The good news is that as more and more people seek out organic products, the product lines will become larger and more diverse. Although it’s getting easier and easier to find organic skin care products, it will become even easier as it becomes more common for people to use these products.

So there you have it.

There are many advantages to using organic skin care products and many products to choose from. For those interested in a more natural lifestyle, choosing organic skin care is the next, logical step.

Toxic Chemicals in Skin and Hair Care Products

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 20.10.11

It is important to be careful about the chemicals that are placed on the skin with skin care products and cosmetics. Many skin products and cosmetics have dangerous chemicals as a part of there components. Our skin is not a barrier to these chemicals it acts as a transporter for these chemicals and they can end up in our blood stream and from there to the rest of our body. These chemicals will add to the toxicity of the body and will potentially add to ill health or delay the healing process.

More than 500 ingredients are used to make cosmetics products. We are unsure of the safety for the majority of these chemicals. The most common reactions to the chemicals are eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. However, there is evidence that people who work with these chemicals (such as hairdressers and beauticians) suffer from the cumulative effects of the chemical. The studies concluded that:

There is an increased risk of lung, uterine, ovarian, breast, digestive and respiratory cancer.

Of the 169 permanent hair dyes, 150 are mutagenic (cause changes to our cells genes).

The use of permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes is associated with increased risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukaemia and Hodgkin’s disease.

The ingredients that you need to avoid include:

Foaming agents including sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulphate and 1,4-dioxane.

Artificial fragrances – many chemicals are able to gain access to our body via our olfactory system or sublingually (under the tongue). In the case of toothpaste a single fragrance can be made up of 200 chemicals which don’t have to be labeled. Many fragrances are based on petroleum products and some reactions to these include dizziness, skin irritation and brown tinges to the skin. Products that are fragranced with essential oils are your safest choices.

Artificial colors. Things have improved since Queen Elizabeth 1 died from lead poisoning caused by her trademark white make up. However, there are still many questionable colorants. Synthetic colors are made up from coal tar containing heavy metal salts that deposit toxins into our systems.

Emulsifiers – these are used in just about all personal grooming products. They keep the texture uniform and stop the ingredients from separating. Eggs can be used for this but skin care companies prefer a more synthetic version. Glyceryl monostearate and stearic acid are two commonly used emulsifiers and oral care products that are known to cause side effects – in particular skin irritations. Another commonly used emulsifier is triethanolamine, a substance that is converted in living tissue into nitrosamines – some of the strongest carcinogens known. Triethanolamine causes skin irritation problems. Ethoxylates is another commonly used emulsifier which is a strongly mutagenic. It damages the DNA which increases skin aging and the risk of developing skin cancers.

Preservatives – These are used to slow the rate at which the products decay and therefore increase the products shelf life. Some of these that need to be avoided are:

Imidazolidinyl urea – formaldehyde. This is known to cause dermatitis, skin irritation, nerve damage and cancers.

Parabens – over 90% of cosmetics contain a preservative from the parabens family. Some of the latest research suggests that these may work as endocrine disruptors. These chemical play a role in increasing the rate of breast cancer and decreasing rates of male fertility.

Carrying agents – this is the ingredient that provides all the other ingredients a means to be suspended. Water is the most common carrying agent and some are derived from vegetable glycerine or seaweed. However, it is usually a petroleum derivative.

Porpylene glycol is commonly used and there are general warnings about it when it is in contact with the skin. It can cause brain, liver and kidney problems. Yet this is the agent that is commonly used in stick deodorants, toothpaste and most other personal care items!

Other ingredients to watch out for are PVP/VA copolymer, stearalkonium chloride, petrolatum and paraffin.

Skin and hair care products are used in an attempt to enhance our appearance or preserve our skin – however this is not what many of the product that are commercially available actually do. Many are far from safe and add to the toxic burden of the body. If you have been using unsafe skin and hair care products (and anybody who uses the usual commercially available products will have) then you need to detoxify your body to remove these toxic chemicals and limit the damage that they can cause.

Baby Skin Care – Identifying Baby Skin Conditions

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 19.10.11

There are a variety of baby skin conditions and rashes out there and the best baby skin care prevention and treatment is to know what they are and what you can do about them.

Baby acne, is acne that happens on babies instead of adults. It is caused by the mother’s hormones coursing through the child’s blood stream. It generally occurs when your baby is two to three months old, and can last up to 4 to 6 weeks or more. Baby acne is normally noticed as red bumps on your child’s skin or face. Treating baby acne is fairly easy; the first baby skin care treatment is to keep the baby’s skin clean, and cool but not cold. Babies need warmth and if it’s too cold or too hot, it can hurt her, also avoid acne medicines and use only a mild soap to wash her with.

Another common problem is birthmarks; they can appear and are generally found around the head. If they are bigger than 1 and a half centimeters and closer to the spine, the bigger the problem they can cause. You need to have your pediatrician check her over thoroughly and if the doctor feels it is necessary, run a few tests. The birthmarks can be removed; however, caution is always advisable.

There are a few varieties of birthmarks and your doctor can help you to determine what type it is and what treatments are necessary.

The most common varieties are Stork bites, angel kisses, salmon patches, vascular stains; then the Café au lait spots, moles, Port-wine stains, or nevus flammeus, and Hemangioma. Knowing what type is half the battle on what needs to be and can be done.

Another very common and very frustrating condition is Cradle Cap; it is basically baby dandruff. Baby dandruff normally comes around when she is about three months old and can last several weeks. The severity of cradle cap can vary from one baby to the next as well as the treatments for it. The milder cases can generally be taken care of with No Tears baby shampoo. With the more extreme cases, many parents turn to olive oil and a soft comb designed just for her.

The most common and absolutely frustrating is diaper rash; it is more of a pain to your little girl than it is to you. Diaper rashes can be caused by a variety of things, especially the diapers themselves. Diaper rashes appear in different ways but if your little girl’s bottom is red and she is extremely irritable, then chances are she has it. There are a variety of natural cures and creams available for you to try. Your doctor can help you to determine the treatment and cure.

Just as there are numerous boys and girls, there are many rashes and skin conditions that can plague them. Your best bet with baby skin care is to be patient, ask plenty of questions and show your baby nothing but love and attention.

Skin Care Products – Not a Modern Invention

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 17.10.11

Are you worried that you are getting older and your skin is showing signs of age? You are not alone. Today’s culture places a premium on youth and looking young. Our Hollywood stars and our commercials make us feel any blemish that makes us feel older is a bad one.

In fact, these perceptions are not new ones. The use of anti aging skin care products predates modern times. Make up has been used for centuries to make people look and feel younger. Thousands of years ago the Egyptians used makeup. Other cultures that used makeup included ancient Greeks and Romans, and Europeans during the Renaissance. Anti aging skin care products generally belonged to the rich as impoverished classes could not afford luxury items.

Now, however, such skin care products are marketed toward all classes. Indeed, the intensity with which these products are advertised and marketed – especially towards very young people – is something new. TV commercials, Internet commercials and print ads bombard us with images of the ideal young face.

Of course, it’s not just the face on the cover of the magazine that looks so beautiful, but also how it’s presented. Modern photographic and dark room technology allows for touchups on advertisements that can make people’s skin look better in print than it can possibly look in real life. The result: an almost unattainable goal for young and perfect looking skin. When people see Madonna’s face on the cover of Rolling Stone they are seeing not just a beautiful young face, but the work of makeup artists, camera crews and now digital editing artists.

Even Dove soap’s recent line of commercials promoting the idea that women and young girls accept themselves and their bodies as they are has its problems. Apparently, one of Hollywood’s leading touchup artists was hired to make these supposedly “ordinary” models look just a little bit more extraordinary. Even as women were being invited to log on to a website and share their stories of self acceptance, they were being exposed to images of impossible perfection.

Anti aging skin care products are big business. Dubai, a Middle Eastern country that is now attracting Western business, will soon greet the world’s best anti-aging experts as doctors and professionals meet at the first Dubai Congress on Anti Aging and Aesthetic Medicine which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Center November 7-9, 2008.

The focus of the conference is to bring medical practitioners from America, Europe and Australia to present their latest research and techniques for anti-aging.

Currently the anti aging market is estimated to be worth billion according to the director and organizers of the program. Anti-aging products and surgeries are estimated to have an annual growth rate of almost 9% and are expected to generate sales of 5.5 billion by the year 2010.

Most consumer groups say there is nothing inherently wrong with skincare products designed to help you look and feel younger; rather, just the sheer bombardment of marketing techniques can be harmful. If it makes you feel good to wear products that allow you to feel full of youth , talk with your doctor or dermatologist about the available products. Sometimes just shopping for makeup with a group of friends can be fun. There’s no harm in having a good time. Critics simply worry that people – especially young girls – can become so obsessed with external appearances that they lose sight of psychological health and inner beauty.

Do African American Skin Care Products Have Different Ingredients?

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 16.10.11

African American and Black Skin Products must have the right ingredients to really work. Some ingredients should be avoided for black skin or any other type of skin. In this article I will show you which ones work and which ones to avoid. Some ingredients, for example, will cause hyper pigmentation while others will cause de-pigmentation. Here is what you should avoid and what you need.

Compounds to Avoid

-Sodium methyl paraben

-Petroleum-based products

-Chemical bleaching agents

Sodium methyl paraben is one ingredient that is a lot of skin care products. It has been suspected of causing breast cancer and is currently banned in the EU. It can also cause de-pigmentation that may not be temporary. This and all parabens should not be used on your skin.

Products with petroleum content also can cause hyper pigmentation. Dark spots may appear that do not match other skin tone. Also propylene glycol and wood based alcohols have been known to cause darker spots to appear on the skin. The reason often stated why these ingredients are in black skin care products is that they relieve oiliness. However, the products most people are using cause the oiliness. Petrolatum, mineral oil and other products that are petroleum based CAUSE the oiliness.

Products that contain bleaching agents are usually very harmful to the skin. Do not use them. There are whitening agents that are safe. I found one that is excellent.

Compounds to Seek Out

-Extra pone nut grass

-CoQ10

- Jojoba

-Natural vitamin E

-Functional keratin

-Wakame kelp

Extra-pone nut grass is a very good ingredient that will even out the skin tone. It usually doesn’t take much to give a noticeable difference.

Also, natural vitamin E will help repair hyper-pigmented skin spots. Vitamin E does this because it is an antioxidant. Black skin can have an uneven tone that will be helped by nut grass and vitamin E.

Effective Moisturizers that Balance Sebum Production

Most of us have places on our skin that can be anywhere from very oily to mildly or very dry. What causes this is usually a cream or lotion that has ingredients that should be avoided. It might be that we just have a difference in the amount of skin follicles. Use a moisturizer with the ingredients I recommended and avoid cheap over the counter skin products. Expensive department stores are also a place NOT to buy products. Many are harmful.

Sebum, which is the natural moisturizer for skin, comes from the sebaceous glands. They are located at the root of the hair follicles. Jojoba and/or passion fruit are found in the better African American skin products. These ingredients are known for moisturizing dry skin. And they will do so without making greasy areas or causing skin irritations.

Anti-Aging Ingredients

Anti aging products such lotions and creams are very popular right now. Many companies are promoting anti-aging products. But beware most of them don’t work and could even make your skin worse. So what does work?

Functional Keratin is the most successful and effective of all the antiaging products I researched. Functional keratin combined with Wakame kelp extract and antioxidants CoQ10 and natural vitamin E promotes the increase of new skin fibers and skin cells. Wakame helps prevent sagging by increasing skin firmness.

Antioxidants that are from a natural source, not some cheap imitation, attack free radicals. Free radicals, is believed by some doctors, to cause aging signs to appear. So if you have black skin or actually any skin tone, the above ingredients mentioned should either be avoided or included in your skin care regimen. I recommend that you use a skin care product that is designed to protect and enhance your skin complexion. I’m glad I did. – Margaret Bell

Natural Dry Skin Care Tips

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 15.10.11

We all strive to have that healthy vibrant looking skin. Besides being thin, that is what seems to be portrayed in all the commercials and advertisements. Natural dry skin care tips can help you achieve your goal of looking younger and healthier. Even men are becoming more aware of looking younger. Winter time is a time when your skin can become dry and even cracked or chapped. We often think of summertime as the time in which we get dry skin. Both times can be contributors, but there are some natural dry skin care tips that can help for both seasons.

One of the most important natural dry skin care tips, is to drink plenty of water. Both winter and summer are factors that can dehydrate our skin and cause it to become dry. Wood stoves and other types of heat can cause the home to have low humidity levels which can be very drying to the skin. Hot showers cause the blood vessels to dilate and that results in loss of water, so you need to replenish the moisture in your body by drinking more water. I’ll say it again because it is very important, the most important natural dry skin care tips, is to drink lots of water.

There are other natural dry skin care tips such as using honey for a facial. A facial will get rid of the dry skin and allow new skin to grow in its place. You really need to moisturize the skin all over your body as it can become dry everywhere, not just the face and hands. You can also use honey on your legs and hands to get rid of dry skin. Much the same as the facial, let it stand for 10 minutes and then wash off. Natural dry skin care tips such as keeping the lips moist, can help prevent chapped lips. The lips have no oil glands so they can be susceptible to drying and cracking. There are all natural remedies you can use to keep the lips moist.

There are many natural dry skin care tips that work, but another one that might be useful is to be careful when drying with a towel. You can rub hard enough to rub the moisture out of your skin. You should towel blot when ever possible. Make sure you use some type of moisturizer on your face, and neck, and hands morning and night. Natural dry skin care tips will keep your body moisturized and looking vibrant and healthy just like you want to look.

An Anti Aging Skin Care Product FAQ

Posted in Home Skin Care Articles on 14.10.11

It seems like, every day, a new anti aging skin care product is hitting the market, each containing a special combination of anti aging ingredients. In fact, there are so many of them, it can be hard to keep track. So how do you choose the anti aging skin care products that will be right for you? One way is by educating yourself about the different ingredients, how they work, and what they do.

There’s a good chance you have already heard of CynergyTK, Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10, or Wakame. But just what does each of these ingredients do? Here’s a crash course.

CynergyTK

What Is CynergyTK?

Called a miracle ingredient by many, CynergyTK has been clinically proven to visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It also makes skin softer and firmer, all of which makes your skin look younger and healthier.

Where Does It Come From?

CynergyTK is derived from a process that uses the wool of New Zealand sheep. This wool contains a protein that is almost exactly like the protein the human body uses to create fresh, new skin cells. It also stimulates elastin and collagen production. A lack of elastin and collagen is responsible for many of the visible signs of aging.

What Are the Benefits?

CynergyTK has many benefits, including:

* Improving skin firming and elasticity.

* Reduces redness, which can be a problem for those with sensitive, dry, or easily irritated skin.

* Brightens dull, lifeless skin, giving it a healthy glow.

* Evens out uneven skin tones.

Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10

What Is It?

Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10 is another ingredient that can dramatically reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Where Does It Come From?

Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10 is actually a combination of two other ingredients, vitamin E and COQ10. These two powerful antioxidants protect your skin from the free radicals that can damage and age your skin cells. They also help repair any damage your skin has already experienced.

What Are the Benefits?

Nanobelle CoenzymeQ10 has many benefits, including:

* Protecting your skin from the aging effects of harmful UV-A rays.

* “Waking up” the skin by stimulating cell activity.

Wakame

What Is It?

Wakame is an ingredient that helps keep your skin firm, elastic, and smooth.

Where Does It Come From?

Wakame is a type of Japanese sea algae. The people of Japan have eaten it for many years, believing it would help keep their skin looking smooth and youthful. And, as with so many “folk” remedies, scientific studies have found those beliefs to be true.

What Are the Benefits?

Wakame has many benefits. Some of them include:

* Moisturizing the skin. This is important because those with dry skin are more likely to develop fine lines and wrinkles.

* Increasing skin elasticity.

* Healing skin irritation.

With all of the anti aging skin care products on the market, choosing the right one can be challenge. But, once you learn a little about the ingredients found in these products, you will be better able to choose the anti aging skin care product that is right for you.
